A primary school teacher in Teddington has set up her own after-school tuition business.

Bryony Fraser, who has been a primary school teacher for 25 years, officially started Teddington Tuition on Monday, 14 September.

Speaking about why she decided to start up her own tuition business, Bryony told Nub News: "I have done one-to-one and small group tuition sessions alongside primary school teaching for around 20 years, but I just wanted to set up my own business because I wanted to create smaller sessions where I can really support children.

"Small groups can provide strong focused support for children to really build confidence and an opportunity to work collaboratively and alongside other pupils."

Teddington Tuition offers sessions to small groups with a maximum of six children.

Bryony's sessions run on Mondays and Tuesdays at 3.45 and 4.45pm in The Peter and Paul Centre. However, However, further groups may be offered at a later date.

During these sessions, the tutor offers Maths and English support to children in years 3 to 6 as well as support to those preparing for their 11+ exams.

Bryony said: "My pupils get small group sessions for less money than they would if the sessions were one-to-one.

"Sessions cost £30 an hour, but we also offer free trial sessions so parents and children can decide whether our tuition works for them - they don't have to commit to it at all."



Speaking about why parents should choose Teddington Tuition, Bryony said: "I'm very experienced. I have a lot of experience working in primary schools, but also in helping children to achieve their goals through tuition.

"And I think that tuition can provide more focused support, which you can't get in a class of 30 children.

"So, the idea of Teddington Tuition is that the groups are small and more affordable than one-to-one.

"It's also super convenient because it's close to some of the local primary schools, so they can just be dropped off after school.

"And the fact that children aren't attending sessions alone means that they can meet other children there and hopefully have some kind of interaction between each other, which I think can support their learning as well."

Bryony added that tuition "can really help to improve children's confidence, which they can then take back into the classroom".

She continued: "It can massively help to fill in gaps where the learning at school has kind of moved forward, and they've just missed something or haven't quite got something.

"So, it can really help to identify children-specific learning gaps and help with those."
