Jyoti Sanyal, centre manager at  First Class Learning Teddington, says that tuition helps build confidence and that it is important to start tuition at an early age because that is "when a child's basic needs become clear".

She says that parents should not wait until their child is doing their SATS or GCSEs to start tuition because "children in Year 5 or 6 may still struggle with complex Maths problems if they don't get extra help at an early age".

Jyoti said: "So, I think when they start tuition early, it's good because they slowly build confidence in their subjects, which they can then bring to school.

"Even if they just do 10 minutes of their tuition homework everyday, by the time they reach Year 5, they are quite confident in a variety of subject concepts.

Jyoti currently has a student who is just four year's old and she says he has already "made big progress" in just three weeks.

She said: "He is just doing 20 minutes with me a week and I am helping him with his phonics as English is not his first language, but I can already see a huge difference.

"So, I think children can start tuition with me as young as four because I'm quite flexible."

To help keep her younger pupils focused, Jyoti lets them take a break and go for a walk after half an hour or 20 minutes.

"It's important for them to stand up at some point rather than sitting down for the whole session," she said.

Speaking about why she thinks pupils should join her tuition sessions, Jyoti told Nub News: "While my sessions are not one-to-one, they are in small groups based on what level each child is at and the sessions are very personalised to each child because I will have them do an initial assessment to see what level they are at.

"I also give each child a personal homework sheet at the end of the session depending on what level they're at."

Jyoti says for the first two weeks or month of a child joining her tuition sessions, she will give that child a personal homework sheet to do every day.

"It's just a little practice to do each day, nothing too much," she said.

She added that some children even finish their homework sheets during the tuition sessions.

As well as having Jyoti, First Class Learning Teddington has other teaches who are suitable for teaching different groups.

First Class Learning Teddington offers Maths and English tuition to children aged four – 16.

Unlike many tuition services, it ensures each child receives individual attention and personalised programmes.

Each child completes an initial assessment in both subjects, helping Jyoti identify their strengths, address gaps in knowledge, and build independence and focus.

Lessons are then tailored to the individual and progress is only made once the child fully understands a topic.
