Kingston has introduced temporary protected walking and cycle lanes to aid social distancing including Kingston Bridge which will impact those travelling from Teddington.

As more of the non-essential retail sector reopens for business and outdoor markets get the green light, the centre of Kingston is expected to be much busier with traffic and shoppers.

In specific relation to Kingston Bridge the new arrangements include the installations of barriers, cones and signage will be to protect the inside traffic lane in both directions, providing additional road space for cyclists and merging existing pedestrian and cycle space for the use of pedestrians.

A spokesperson said:"We are planning to introduce similar measures in other locations across the borough and are currently assessing a number of potential sites.

"If you have any suggestions of how we could improve your streets, please let us know by contacting us at: sustainable: [email protected] or via Twitter (@RBKingston).

"Subject to TfL funding, we will look to implement further safety measures in the coming weeks and months.

"These may well include speed reductions on hotspot roads, the introduction of barriers on residential roads (to prevent rat running) and low traffic neighbourhoods."
