PHOTO SPECIAL AT WOODLAND GARDENS, BUSHY PARK: (3pm to 4pm today)

If you are having a struggle wondering where to take your regular hour of exercise each day on such a beautiful day as today (wednesday) look no further than the Woodland Gardens in Bushy Park.

As the government has advised, you should not be driving anywhere for exercise so only make the trip if it is in within easy walking and cycling distance. The advice remains Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives.

While adhering rigidly to the 2-metre guidelines and no mass gatherings it is possible to stroll through this stunning and tranquil haven of wildlife, shrubs, flowers and trees and witness a kaleidoscope of colour at very close quarters.

There are multi-coloured Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons, Bluebells and if you are keen-eyed you can spot the Herons, Woodpeckers, Blackcaps, Chiffchaffs, Parakeets, Robins, Great Tits, Wrens and Blue Tits as well as the more popular Magpies and Jackdaws.

You can also see (but don't get to close) to the noisy and protective Egyptian geese and their families of goslings, Canadian geese, Mandarin ducks, Mallards and their fluffy ducklings, Coots and Moorhens.

Unlike the rest of the Park, there is no cycling, no ball games and no dogs and during these worrying times there is no better sanctuary offering much-needed respite from the lockdown and its constraints.
