The Royal Parks charity have announced 'Creating Spaces for Life', a new photography competition to celebrate London's green spaces.

"We want to see your photographs that show the life which thrives in the Royal Parks at this time of year," announced Royal Parks on Thursday 4 April.

The photos are to be judged by a panel including professional photographer Chris O'Donovan, with submissions being accepted until 10 May.

The winners will be announced on 10 June.

Competitors have been told to focus on how the Royal Parks across London make space for nature across the city, from "ducklings, goslings or cygnets along the waterways, to the vibrant bloom of roses, daffodils and tulips in the flowerbeds".

However the parks are warning snappers against disrupting any wildlife in their quest for the perfect shot.

Their advice is especially relevant with local Bushy and Richmond Parks as deer birthing season approaches.

Female deer are especially wary during this vulnerable time, with more than 200 deer being born in Richmond Park alone.

The Royal Parks ask visitors and photographers alike to keep 50m away from the deer to help "keep wildlife wild".

Prizes are as follows, with one of each available for the Junior, Young Adult and Adult categories:

  1. Two tickets to BST Hyde Park 2024, or four for the Junior category
  2. Up to four tickets for a boating session at Hyde Park, The Regents Park or Greenwich Park
  3. A pair of tickets to a walking tour of your choice.

Those wishing to enter can find the full details of the competition on the Royal Parks website here.
