Richmond’s Ted Lasso shares football insight with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta at Brentford game

By Rory Poulter 21st Sep 2022

AFC Richmond coach, Ted Lasso, was seen sharing football knowledge with the Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, following his team's victory over Brentford at the weekend.

The American coach has apparently become something of a mentor to Arteta, whose team sit top of the Premier League going into the international break.

The Arsenal manager heaped praise on Ted and the hit US comedy show in a recent interview. And it seems he was keen to share some knowledge following the 3-0 victory on Sunday.

Ted, who has watched Brentford several times, was heard saying: "This is a hard team to play against."

Ted – AKA Jason Sudeikis – has been seen at a number of Premier League games in recent months as his team completes filming the third series of the award-winning Apple TV show across Richmond and Twickenham.

Just last week, the actor and show picked up a series of awards at the Emmys, held in Los Angeles. But it seems Ted and fellow stars, including Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, were keen to get back to the UK for filming – and the weekend Premier League fixture.

It was reported that the group meeting Mikel Arteta, which was posted by the global sports network beIN Sport, also included the American actor, Sam Richardson, who was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his appearance in Ted Lasso.

Speaking last week, Arteta heaped praise on the show and how Ted handles his role of managing Premier League AFC Richmond through the ups and downs of football life.

He said: "It has been great. And it has been great in terms of his approach and how he deals with difficult moments. There is always a smile and he is always believing.

"He gives you a different perspective. There is more than one way of looking at things – there are positives and negatives."

He signed off saying: "Thanks Ted. You have been brilliant."
