The Borough of Richmond upon Thames has been dubbed the 'happiest place to live in Great Britain in Rightmove's 'happy at home index'.

They rank areas of the country based on asking residents how they feel about thie area based on 13 'happiness factors'.

This is the first time that an area in London has taken the top spot.

Richmond residents scored it highly for "feeling a sense of belonging to the area and being comfortable to be themselves", as well as its access to nature and green spaces.

In a statement on their website, Right Move said: "The results of this year's study showed that the most important contributors to happiness were feeling a sense of pride, belonging and community.

"Access to green space and nature is also important to residents, with those living in a rural area near a national park, or an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, more likely to feel happy where they live."

Winchester in Hampshire took the second spot and Monmouth in Wales was third.

Kensington and Chelsea took the second spot in the regional London list.

Rightmove's happy at home index was completed by more than 26,000 people this year.
