The long-awaited refurbishment to Teddington Lock's footbridges was completed on Tuesday, 18 March.

However, locals have noticed that the tops of the piers were left out in the refurbishment, so Teddington Nub News has spoken to the council to find out why.

A Richmond Council spokesperson said: "The Teddington Lock footbridges have undergone a major £6.7 million refurbishment to strengthen and future-proof this vital crossing for thousands of pedestrians and cyclists every day.

"This investment has delivered critical structural repairs, a full protective repaint, and the replacement of the Ferry Road approach ramp, significantly improving the bridges' safety and longevity.

"As part of the project, a comprehensive structural inspection was carried out to identify and prioritise essential works.

"The timber at the top of the piers was not deemed to be 'safety critical' or 'urgent' and therefore was not included in the scope of this refurbishment.

"However, the Council remains committed to the ongoing maintenance of the borough's infrastructure and will continue to monitor the condition of the bridges."
