Richmond Council has launched a new climate action microgrants scheme, following the success of  35 microgrant-funded community projects, events and activities during last year's Great Big Green Week.

The scheme will support local climate action projects on an ongoing basis.

From April, two to three microgrants of £100 to £500 will be awarded to successful applicants each month, to help get new green initiatives off the ground or grow an existing project.

Anyone living or working in Richmond upon Thames can apply for a microgrant, be it a passionate individual, community group, school or non-profit organisation.

Through the new rolling microgrants scheme, we want to support projects that will help even more residents learn about climate action and switch to sustainable behaviours in the long term, as well as those projects that will support local people and nature to adapt to a changing climate.

They are especially interested in supporting projects and ideas that demonstrate a wider community benefit – from involving neighbours to supporting more disadvantaged or vulnerable members of the community.

Example projects could include a repair or re-use initiative, a sustainable street festival, an event to help mobilise local community action or a project to encourage biodiversity and improve natural conservation.

Last year's Great Big Green Week programme includes many ideas of how grants have been used, to help kickstart inspiration.

Applications will be assessed on a monthly basis during the year-long scheme, and funds will be released shortly after applicants have been notified of their success.

Upcoming application deadlines for spring, as well as outcome notification dates, are below.

Recipients must be able to commit to completing their project within six months of receiving funding.
