The multi-million pound revival of Richmond's department store will see the arrival of a luxury gym group and stylish restaurant brand.

The former House of Fraser store in George Street has been dark since 2020, leaving a hole in the heart of the town centre.

However, it is being brought back to life by local firm, Sheen Lane Developments, who have announced the first tenants - Third Space and Sticks'n'Sushi.

The news will guarantee the scheme and is certain to prove a huge attraction.

At the same time, the news is expected to attract other new tenants to the site, which is crucial to the life of Richmond town centre.

Richmond BID, which is the group representing town centre businesses, described the news as 'amazing' adding: 'Get ready for a new level of luxury and vitality in Richmond town centre'.

Sheen Lane Developments said: "We are delighted to announce that luxury health and fitness group, Third Space, has signed for nearly 30,000 sqft of space across basement, ground and first floor."

It added: "The landmark building located at the junction of George Street, King Street and Golden Court in central Richmond will offer local residents and future tenants of the building access to state of the art gym equipment and technology in luxury work out and recovery space of a level and quality that is not currently available in Richmond.

"The club will feature a gym, pilates studio, HIT Studio, hot yoga studio and spinning studio at first floor level, along with a swimming pool, sauna and steam room located in the basement."

The dedicated entrance to the club will be from Golden Court, between George Street and Richmond Green and is set to open its doors to members in Summer 2024.

In a separate boost, the firm said: "Sticks'n'Sushi who are a high-end Danish-Japanese restaurant group, have signed for 5,000 sqft of space at ground floor level at the prominent corner of George Street and King Street which will bring life and activity down King Street itself."

The group operates 10 restaurants in the UK, including eight in London and one in each of Oxford and Cambridge, plus others across Europe.

The group, which is soon to open a new restaurant in Shoreditch , has been actively searching for appropriate space in Richmond for some time, but a location and space befitting their brand has not been available until now.

Sticks'n'Sushi was founded in Copenhagen in 1994 and serves high-quality sushi and freshly grilled yakitori sticks with a Nordic touch in beautiful surroundings with outstanding service.

Martin Tynan, of Sheen Lane Developments said: "We have said for some time that this building is of great importance and significance to the vitality of Richmond Town Centre and securing partners of the calibre of Third Space and Sticks'n'Sushi will elevate the building and reinvigorate this end of the high street.

"We welcome the commitment of both occupiers, who share our vision for this special building in creating a landmark mixed-use development, of which a best-in-class restaurant and health and wellbeing club fits perfectly."
