Virtually all of Richmond borough's 11 state Secondary schools achieved above average results in their GCSE exams this year, according to official figures.

At the same time, six of the eight establishments offering A levels achieved grades ahead of the national average.

The figures have been published online by the government, which cautions against using the data for comparing schools because of the effects of the pandemic and the different make-up of pupil populations.

However, the information provides a useful starting point for parents and pupils who are looking for a secondary school.

The data covers a number of key indicators, including the proportion of students who achieved a grade of 5 or better in English and Maths.

Also covered is the proportion of pupils who entered GCSEs in the five key pillars of the English Baccalaureate - English, Maths, Sciences, a Language and either History or Maths; and the average Ebacc points score for these pupils.

Significantly, the GCSE tables also provide information on progress made by pupils across 8 key areas since arriving from Primary school.

Turing House posted the highest proportion of pupils getting good results in English and Maths at 82% ahead of Orleans Park on 79% and Grey Court on 76%.

Looking at the proportion of students entered for the key EBacc subjects, Orleans Park came out on top at 80%, ahead of Richmond upon Thames school at 78% and Grey Court on 73%.

Figures for pupil grades in the EBacc subjects put Orleans Park on top at an average of 6.08, ahead of Turing House on 5.99 and Waldegrave on 5.89.

Looking at pupil progress, Turing House comes out on top at +0.86, ahead of St Richard Reynolds Catholic High School at +0.77 and Orleans on +0.64.

Twickenham School, which was uprated to Good by Ofsted following an inspection last year, scored below other schools in terms of results. However it was among the top performers in terms of pupil progress at +0.42, which represents a significant achievement.

The A Level tables provide details of the average grade achieved and pupil progress during their Sixth Form education.

Looking at State schools in the borough, Grey Court narrowly pipped the rest with an average grade of B. Just below with an average of B- were Teddington School, Christ's, Orleans Park, Hampton High and Waldegrave.

In terms of Sixth Form progress, Teddington School came out on top with a 'well above average' score of +0.4, while Christ's was 'above average' at +0.21, and Orleans achieved an 'above average' score of +019.

The A level results for the borough's private independent schools put St Paul's on top with an average grade of A+ with Lady Eleanor Holles on A and Hampton School on A-. In terms of pupil progress, Hampton House School did best with a 'well above average' score of +0.75.
