Remembrance Day plans as police hold early service in Teddington
Police held an early Remembrance service at the war memorial outside Teddington Memorial Hospital.
Neighbourhoods Chief Inspector Nicholas Hackett-Peacock laid a wreath with a message on behalf of the police in South West London.
It said: "On behalf of the South West borough command unit. We will always remember those who gave their lives for our freedoms."
Mr Hackett-Peacock added on Twitter: "Proud to be representing the South West BCU at the Remembrance Day Service at Teddington Memorial Hospital #LestWeForget."
The end of hostilities in the First World War will be commemorated across the borough in the coming week, but in a different way than usual because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
In line with the national advice, there will be no official parades taking place on Remembrance Sunday (November 8).
Instead, residents and veterans will be encouraged to pay their respects at home, by observing the national 2-minute silence at 11am.
A silence will also be observed on Remembrance Day itself (Wednesday, November 11).
Churches around the borough are also planning Remembrance events on Sunday.
Anyone wishing to attend is recommended to contact organisers directly regarding any entry arrangements.
There will be services at:
- St James Church in Hampton Hill
- St Stephen's Church in East Twickenham
- St Andrew's Church in Ham
- St Peter's Church in Petersham
- St Mary's Church in Barnes
- St Philip and James Church in Whitton
