Earlier this month, Mr Steven Ross submitted an application to Richmond Council to turn Ladbrokes on Teddington High Street into a new retail shop and for the installation of a new shopfront.

The ground floor of the three-story site is currently vacant, but it was occupied by Ladbrokes (this use ceased in June 2024).

There is residential accommodation on the floors above.

The application document reads: "The proposed development seeks a change of the betting shop, to a class (E) retail use.

"It has also proposed to install a new shop front.

"This would have a predominantly glazed, contemporary appearance.

"The glazing would be a wooden frame with projecting wooden glazing bars. The door would have level access.

"The proposed elevation shows shop front lettering on the panel fascia. Any internal or external illumination would be subject to a separate advertisement consent."

Speaking about the current shopfront, the document says: "The existing shopfront detracts from the character of the conservation area.

"It is not original and consists of a white powder coated aluminium frame with a poorly located panel fascia sign. In contrast the proposed shopfront would have a wooden glazed frame.

"Materially this would be more keeping, and the signage would be at the panel of fascia level."

It is not stated in the application what the new shop will be.

Neighbours and local residents are being consulted on this application.

The neighbouring notification began on Monday 21 October.

The council is yet to make a decision.
