Over sixty artists to discover on your Teddington doorstep this weekend at the Landmark Arts Centre
Teddington's beating heart of arts and culture launched its Autumn Art Fair yesterday afternoon (October 14) which will be running throughout the weekend.
There are over 60 artists to discover at the centre's contemporary art fair, from prints to paintings, sculptures to sketches, and with prices ranging from £50 prints to £4,000 originals, there is something to suit everyone and every budget.
Nub News headed down to the Landmark yesterday evening to chat to some of the artists showcasing their work to get a stronger idea of what drives their creativity and what those attending can expect from the weekend art fair.
Nicholas Marsh is a sculptor whose professional making career has spanned some thirty years. Speaking to Nub News, he said: "I've been making art work for over forty years and have travelled widely across the world living in many different places, I came back to the UK from Canada in 2002 and currently live in England in a small ex mining village where my grandfather used to dig coal.
"My work covers the experiences of my life, the places I have visited and lived in and it hopefully represents who I am, but that is up to the viewer to interpret in their own way."
Magnolia Restrepo is a Colombian Jeweller who is now based in Yorkshire.
Having grown up surrounded by verdant tropical mountains, nature and the people who work closely with nature have always been a strong inspiration to Magnolia.
Learning first from her elder brother, Magnolia started working with silver at the age of 15 and has since developed her jeweller's art and craft. The Leeds-based jeweller gives life to each piece by fusing and transforming metals, often uniting them with precious and semi-precious stones.
Magnolia ensures a large portion of her pieces are ethically sourced using Fairtrade gold and silver.
Eliot Siegel is a well published London Portrait Photographer based in Teddington. Among the most notable names he has photographed are Angelina Jolie in the desert of Arizona, Charles Dance for GQ, Tess Daly on Pall Mall in London, Damian Lewis at the Barbican Theatre, Kelly Brook in San Torini, Martin Amis, Gary Lineker, Kate Moss, Janice Dickenson and Sir Georg Solti.
When questioned on why showcasing his work at the Landmark Arts Centre appealed to him, Eliot said: "I did the spring show last May and was open to the idea of doing it again, one of the highlights of doing it last time was meeting so many wonderful creative artists, it's a really inspiring environment and I thoroughly enjoy showcasing my work amongst so many talented individuals."
Explaining a little bit about his portfolio of work that will be displayed throughout the weekend, Eliot added: "As a fine art photographer I have been working on a project on manikins, shop window manikins, and how retail sees women and sells to women, through the use of reflection and tonality, black and white and colour. I use a process called polaroid transfer which gives an unusual edging thanks to the chemistry of polaroid."
