A new boardgame café, Drinks & Dice, officially opened in Teddington on Saturday, 18 January.

Drinks & Dice is housed in the former HoMe restaurant on Church Road.

Owner Robin Kerremans bought the site from HoMe's owners Patrick and Helen Tsang last month, after they decided to sell it so that they could retire.

Speaking about why he decided to open a boardgame café, Kerremans told Teddington Nub: "I'm a big lover of boardgame cafes, and I noticed there's none in the area here, which was quite disappointing.

"And then I saw this place was up for rent, and I thought this would make a great boardgame cafe. Like, I had a look around and I thought, 'yeah, this would be a bit cosy'.

"The space is ideal for it. So yeah, I decided to start because in university I always loved going to boardgame cafes."

And there's a chalk board for guests to jot down games they think the café should invest in.

For Kerremans, his favourite boardgame to play is the Forbidden Island series.

As with regular cafes, Drinks and Dice sells food and drinks.

For food, the menu offers pizzas, baguettes, and a variety of pub-like snacks, including nachos and sweet potato fries.

For drinks, there's a variety of coffees, teas, and soft drinks to choose from, as well as alcoholic beverages, including beers and ciders.

Whilst wine is not currently on the menu, Kerremans said he plans to add it as he's already had requests from locals.

The grand opening lasted from 9am – 10pm on Saturday, which will be the café's usual opening hours, and Kerremans told Teddington Nub that he had already had a few bookings come through.

By 1pm, there were already a few locals coming in to check out the new café and play a couple games, including a group of men in their mid-30's who were "super excited" about the opening.

One said: "I like that it's just something a little bit different rather than just kind of a bar.

"It's just nice to kind of get to play ball, get a good bit of time with your mates.

And you don't have to be drinking because you're in a café.

"So, it's really good for a group of lads in their mid-30's like us because who doesn't love being competitive with their friends and abusing each other for an hour and then apologising for the next hour?"

Another man from the group mentioned how Drinks & Dice will be a great place to take his daughter and spend some quality time with her.

He said: "If I want to go out with my wife for some drinks, but can't get someone to look after the kids, we can still bring them because there's the games to keep them entertained. Unlike bars and restaurants, this is something where everyone wins."

Kerremans said that he hopes to also host events, such as chess tournaments, at the café.

He also hopes that his events will enable customers, who might not have anyone to visit the cafe with, to meet new people to play a game with.

To play a game at Drinks & Dice, it costs £5.50 per person for an hour and an extra £1.50 for an additional hour,

You can book a table via the cafe's website.

If you are more than ten people or wish to reserve for 5+ hours, you can book a table by calling 02034178260 or emailing  [email protected].
