Local businesses are being encouraged to register to Kingston Council's local supplier directory.

It is hoped that the annual contract and procurement spend of £200m can be used on subcontractors in nearby boroughs.

RBK is inviting local businesses to sign up to a local supplier directory "to make sure the council's purchasing decisions support local people through supporting businesses, creating employment and stimulating the local economy".

"Spend can range from a few hundred pounds up to millions so suppliers of all sizes and sectors are encouraged to register."

Previous external services have included printing, training, catering, building surveys, and arts and Leisure spending.

To be considered 'local', suppliers must have a trading address within either Kingston borough itself, the South London Partnership sub region:

  • Sutton
  • Croydon
  • Merton
  • Richmond upon Thames

Or the following nearby boroughs:

  • Wandsworth
  • Elmbridge
  • Epsom & Ewell

The new push for registrations to the local supplier directory is especially aimed at small businesses according to the council's website.

Those who do sign up will be invited to hear about tender opportunities and attend support and train events later in the year.

Businesses can submit their details to the registry here.
