Attacks on ULEZ cameras in London are up to almost 1,000 in just five months as police revealed a second suspect has been charged.

The Met recorded an astonishing 987 crimes relating to ULEZ cameras from April 1 to October 31 this year, including 220 reports of cameras being stolen and 767 cameras damaged.

Scotland Yard launched a crackdown in May following a spate of attacks on ULEZ cameras, particularly in south east London, by self-styled 'Blade Runner' vigilantes.

Police say there have been five arrests and two people charged in relation to ULEZ crimes.

The latest man to be charged in due to appear in court later this month.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Stephen Nunn, 39, of West Wickham, Bromley, was charged on Saturday 28 October with criminal damage.

"He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court on Monday 13 November."

Previously Joseph Nicolls, 42, of Sidcup, south east London, was charged with criminal damage, malicious communications and handling stolen goods, as well as aiding or abetting the destruction of, or damage to, property valued over £5,000.

He has been bailed ahead of a trial at Woolwich Crown Court next June.

A 44-year-old man was also charged in May with criminal damage, but had their case discontinued by the CPS.

A 52-year-old man arrested on suspicion of criminal damage has been bailed until Tuesday December 19, pending further enquiries.

The Met spokesman added: "A 45-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday 4 October on suspicion of conspiring to commit criminal damage to ULEZ cameras and encouraging or assisting offences to be committed.

"He has since been bailed to return on a date in mid-December."
