A special ceremony has taken place to formally name the trio of OWLS which were recruited to ward off nuisance pigeons at the Pheasantry Café in Bushy Park.

The café operators Colicci, purchased three large plastic owls which have spinning heads and attracted more interest from curious kids rather than doing their job and scaring off the crumb-seeking pigeons, so the café hit on the idea of running a competition to give each of the owls a suitable name.

The Friends of Bushy and Home Parks, the charity which organised the competition, was inundated with entries but the winning names were OLEG which means holy, sacred or blessed and was suggested by a Ukrainian refugee, OSWALD which means divine power and OSGAR which means champion warrior.

Each of the winners received a mug, an owl key ring, a tea towel, a writing block and a jute bag.
