Carefully crafted post box toppers have become quite the phenomenon in recent years, with keen crocheters picking up their hooks to bring an extra sense of joy to communities.

Teddington has been able to enjoy the thrill of the trend and the Easter weekend has seen anonymous creative locals take to the streets to fit lucky post boxes with their toppers.

Denise Lloyd is one of the women responsible for the crochet creations and has added her latest to the fortunate post box on Kingston Road close to the Co op.

The vibrant yellow design is circulated by spring flowers and accompanied by a lamb, chick and bunny sitting proudly on top.

Denise, who has been a Teddington resident for over 40 years, told Nub News she is motivated simply by bringing a smile to people's faces.

The Teddington crocheter said: "I've always loved the post box toppers and as a crocheter myself, and with some encouragement from some friends, I thought this would be a lovely community initiative to be a part of.

"I prefer the anonymity of it, it's a wonderful thing being able to see young children, families and neighbours appreciating them as they walk by. I saw a poor grandad with his granddaughter the other day walking round and round the post box playing with the bells, he has me to thank for a headache!"

Unfortunately, Teddington toppers have been subject to vandalism in the past, and Denise was forced to remove her Easter-themed one a week ago after it had been aggressively pulled at, leading to one of the knitted animals being removed completely.

The Teddington resident took to neighbourhood platform Next Door to inform residents she was forced to remove the topper and was overwhelmed with the support she received with over 150 people encouraging her to return the topper to its post.

Denise added: "It really was disheartening when I had seen the damage, but the support that extended as far as Birmingham, was incredibly overwhelming and I'm very grateful for all the kind words. I returned the topper to its post box today so I hope it is able to bring some extra smiles over the Easter weekend!"

Denise is one of many locals who have used their creative craft to bring some added charm to Teddington, with a beautiful topper also present on Manor Road which is pictured below.
