The Mayor of London has declared a major incident in Teddington and the whole city.

Sadiq Khan has described the virus as 'out of control'.

Hospital COVID admissions are 35% higher than they were in April - with 7,000 people with COVID in London hospitals.

Ambulance calls are also at 8,000 a day - a typical busy day is 5,500.

Mr Khan said: "If we do not take immediate action now, our NHS could be overwhelmed and more people will die.

"Londoners continue to make huge sacrifices and I am today imploring them to please stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary for you to leave. Stay at home to protect yourself, your family, friends and other Londoners and to protect our NHS."

Major incidents have previously been called for the Grenfell Tower fire and terrorist attacks.
