A 53-year-old man is in a life-threatening condition after falling from an e-scooter he was riding on a road near Teddington.

The incident happened at 7.06pm last night (15 July) after the man's electrically powered vehicle crashed on Heath Road in Twickenham.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene and an air ambulance was photographed landing on Twickenham Green, near the crash site.

The victim, who has not been named, was taken to a major trauma centre. His next of kin have been informed.

In a statement this morning, police said the collision did not involve any other vehicles.

But a Twickenham shopkeeper told the Evening Standard last night that he heard the man was hit by a car.

He said: "I was serving a customer who told me a man had been hit by a car and I went out straight away."

"He was lying on the floor in shock, shaking, with his head covered in blood."

He added:"Electric scooters are so dangerous.

"I don't know how but there was zero damage to the car."
