London's 'number one' chippy is set to open a new branch in Teddington later this year.

The Golden chippy, which already has a branch in Greenwich, is expected to replace the former Turkish restaurant, Diners Delight, on Church Road in March or April, Nub News has been told.

According to a source, the owners of the Golden Chippy also own the Church Road building.

The Greenwich branch has been rated as London's number one chippy on Trip Advisor.

A review on Trip Advisor says: "Golden Chippy delights many travelers with its fish and chips, praised for fresh, crispy batter and authentic British flavor, though some note inconsistent chip quality.

"The atmosphere is often highlighted as welcoming, with a fantastic dining environment according to reviewers. Service generally earns positive remarks for warmth and attentiveness, despite occasional reports of slow service.

"Guests commonly find the restaurant offers excellent value with generous portions, although some caution about rising prices and smaller servings. Overall, the experience at Golden Chippy is considered well worth the visit."

The Golden Chippy's owner, Mr Chris Kanizi, first arrived in London in 1977 with the "grand ambition of studying medicine and training as a doctor".

However, Kanizi's plans did not work out, so instead of learning how to operate on humans he became an expert Fish Surgeon".

The owners first opened the doors of their traditional British chippy back in 2005.

They said: "Since then we've grown to become a local favourite and a legendary/established part of the Greenwich community.

"While we are well known for our friendly service and close relationships with our regulars, the quality of our food has always been our highest priority.

"We are very picky about our ingredients and carefully source them from trusted suppliers. The key to our success is very fresh ingredients cooked with all our love and, of course, our secret Golden Chippy recipe.
