Local Elections: Lib Dems win every seat to control Richmond borough once again

Results for the 2026 Richmond borough local elections have been declared with the Liberal Democrats winning all 54 seats.
The Lib Dems took control of Richmond Council for the 12th year running after the results were announced in the early hours of Friday, 8 May.
In a historic election, the Lib Dems gained the remaining five seats which were previously controlled by the Greens.

- Liberal Democrat Party - 54 seats (51.46%)
- Conservative Party - 0 seats (17.91%)
- Green Party - 0 seats (16.11%)
- Reform UK - 0 seats (9.95%)
- Labour Party - 0 seats (4.51%)
- Independent - 0 seats (<1%)
- Turnout: 50.77%

Votes were cast between 7am and 10pm yesterday (Thursday, 7 May) across 18 wards.
Richmond Council confirmed that the turn out for this year's local elections was 50.8%, up from 47.6% in 2022.
Throughout the borough, 75 polling stations were open for residents to vote at with several hundred staff working the stations.
The official count, held at St Mary's University London, was managed by around 320 staff.
Of the 54 seats, only 28 of those are needed to make up the majority.
