Teddington residents could soon be able to grab a bargain at Lidl, as the supermarket chain has announced that it wants to set up a store here.
In an update on its website yesterday, Lidl said it wants to double its number of supermarkets across the UK following a period of 'phenomenal growth' for the business.
The chain released a brochure of desirable locations including 99 in South London alone!
Eight of these are in Richmond borough, including Teddington, Twickenham and Hampton/Hampton Hill.
Here are all the places Lidl wants to expand in Richmond (in alphabetical order):
- Barnes- East Sheen/Mortlake
- Ham/Kingston North- Hampton/Hampton Hill
- North Sheen/Kew,- Richmond Town Centre
- Twickenham To be clear, these are places Lidl wants expand to and no new supermarkets have been officially announced yet. Announcing the plans , Lidl said: "We want to double our portfolio. "To continue our phenomenal growth we require further sites across the country. "These pages highlight locations that particularly interest us. We will however consider opportunities in addition to those areas listed." Lidl is now searching for freehold, leasehold or long leasehold sites in these locations as part of its expansion plans. The supermarket is open to converting existing buildings into Lidl stores and is looking for locations with good traffic or pedestrian flow and ease of access, which can be in or out of town. But if a site is agreed in Teddington this is likely to be controversial, as residents here are keen to support our high street's small and independent businesses.
