Teddington's Lib Dem, local MP, Munira Wilson, has officially launched her campaign for the upcoming local elections, which are taking place on Thursday, 7 May.

In a campaign launch video, Munira Wilson MP said: "Let's have a chat about the state of our high streets and why so many businesses are struggling in Twickenham.

"The costs of doing business are just going up and up whether it's the Job's Tax, which has meant it's more expensive to hire people, especially young people.

"Busniess rates have gone up, which means having a shop on the high street is super expensive now.

"The cost of fuel, the cost of food, which means pouring a pint, making a cake, making a coffee is super, super expensive. And people are really struggling to pay the higher prices.

She added: "We need urgent action from the Labour Government before it's too late."

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the MP tells residents to look out for part two to find out the Lib Dem plan to "save our high streets".

“We need urgent action”??!! Sorry but what have you been doing for the last couple of years? It’s like they just woke up! If you’d spent more time actually in your constituency and actually seeing what’s happening - you would already have a plan. Instead we now have to formulate one? Easy - more security presence, better urban planning avoiding ludicrous schemes like open air cinemas, better management of terrible overrun of barbers and vape shops.
