Injured swan has wing amputated

A badly injured swan, which attracted the attention and compassion of passers-by in Home Park, Hampton Court Palace at the weekend has had its wing amputated, Nub News can reveal today.
The swan was stranded and alone on the grass near the main road as you enter the park on Sunday morning.
Dozens of walkers and cyclists stopped to see if they can assist but the swan was clearly in distress and the local wildlife department was alerted.
As a result the injured swan was taken to The Swan Sanctuary at Shepperton where the life-saving operation was performed.
It is thought the swan had been attacked by a dog or a fox.
Howard Smith, a Trustee of the Sanctuary said: "We picked up the swan from Home Park at the weekend and it had suffered severe injuries to one of its wings so, unfortunately, the vet had to amputate the wing.
"He is now recovering and the prognosis is good although he will now have to stay with us as part of our flock, as we cannot release him back into the wild."
