Eight of the 10 Just Stop Oil activists arrested at Heathrow Airport on Wednesday, 24 July, are to remain in custody in the lead up to trial.

The protestors were taken in by the Met on suspicions that the group were planning to disrupt operations at the country's busiest airport as part of ongoing attempts to force the UK Government end the country's use of oil by 2030.

All of those arrested were charged with conspiracy to interfere with key national infrastructure on Thursday afternoon, 25 July, under Section 7 of the Public Order Act 2023. Those found guilty can be liable to a fine, or up to a 12-month prison sentence.

Along with airports, the controversial act also applies to disruption of oil and gas exploration or production infrastructure, as well as general electricity generation.

The following protestors are still being held by police while they await trial:

  • Sally Davidson, 36, Portland.
  • Adam Beard, 55, Stroud.
  • Rosa Hicks, 28, Stratford.
  • Rory Wilson, 26, Tower Hamlets.
  • Luke Elson, 31, Stratford.
  • Luke Watson, 34, Manuden.
  • Sean O'Callaghan, 29, Mickleham.
  • Hannah Schafer, 60, Ceredigion.

Meanwhile, two protestors have been bailed on the condition of not going within one kilometre of an airport without a ticket to travel.

  • Julia Mercer, 74, Calderdale.
  • William Goldring, 27, Southwark.
