Have your say on traffic reduction measures on Burtons Road in Hampton Hill

Residents will soon receive a letter encouraging them to give their view on proposals to reduce traffic in and around Burtons Road on Hampton Hill.

Given this route is one of the main ways out of Teddington this proposal will be incredibly important to the people of Teddington.

An initial consultation took place in June 2019 following a residents' petition about the high number of vehicles using the area, particularly during peak times.

The results of the consultation showed mixed views on the Council's original traffic reduction measures.

Subsequent work also found that traffic flow through the junction of Hampton Hill High Street with Park Road could be improved by removing some on-street parking spaces and making some minor kerb-line alterations.

Four different proposals are therefore being considered:

  1. The package of 'at any time' physical measures as previously consulted on, but with the addition of the proposed changes to the lane widths and lengths at the High Street/Park Road junction to help mitigate some of the effects of displaced traffic.
  1. 7am to 10am (Eastbound only) Monday to Friday restrictions, preventing access through Burtons Road, Albert Road and Links View Road, with proposed changes to the lane widths and lengths at the High Street/Park Road junction to help to mitigate some of the effects of displaced traffic.

  1. 7am to 10am (Eastbound only) and 4-7pm (Westbound only) Monday to Friday restrictions, preventing access through Burtons Road, Albert Road and Links View Road, with the proposed changes to the lane widths and lengths at the High Street/Park Road junction to help to mitigate some of the effects of displaced traffic.

  1. Do nothing.

Councillor Alexander Ehmann, Chair of Richmond Council's Transport and Air Quality Committee said:

"Burtons Road has clear issues with rat-running. Our new proposals attempt to address the most frequently cited concerns about through-traffic restrictions at this location.

"Please do take the time to respond. The Council are interested in resident feedback on these plans and we will make a swift decision once we have this key information."
