The refurbishment of the outdoor pitch at Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre is now complete, giving the site an upgraded playing surface accredited by World Rugby and FIFA.

Councillor Elizabeth Gant, vice-chair of environment, sustainability, culture and sport committee, said: "We're delighted to see this important refurbishment completed at Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre, with support from the Bourne Education Trust.

This refurbishment supports a key commitment in our Richmond Moves Strategy and Action Plan 2024 to 2029 to enhance and invest in our leisure and sports infrastructure.

"By investing in upgrades like this, we help ensure our facilities continue to offer local communities high-quality spaces to enjoy for years to come, while supporting residents to stay active."

The work included repairs to the drainage and base layer, a replacement shock pad and playing surface, new football goals, and new separation netting.

The upgraded surface will provide 10 to 12 years of high-quality play before any further refurbishment is expected.

This is the first refurbishment of the third-generation (3G) pitch at Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre since it was converted from a sand-dressed hockey pitch in 2016.

It is also the final pitch to be refurbished across the borough's four dual-use sites following other successful projects at Whitton Sports & Fitness Centre's Lincoln Field 3G pitch and Shene Sports & Fitness Centre's sand-dressed hockey pitch in 2023, and two sand-dressed hockey pitches at Teddington Sports Centre in 2024.
