Squires Garden Centre, Twickenham opens today

Squires Garden Centre in Twickenham reopens at 11am today after operating a limited delivery only service during the coronavirus lockdown.

In a statement on their website, the centre states:"We have plenty of parking.

"The number of people permitted in the shop at any one time, is limited, to ensure a 2-metre distance is maintained at all times. Card payments only.

"We will be regularly reviewing opening times and safety procedures to ensure our customers and staff remain safe."

The reopening of garden centres under strict guidelines follows a strong campaign by the sector, which says, it could lose millions of pounds because of the enforced closure at a traditionally busy time of the year.

Local MP Munira Wilson had also lobbied the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove to consider reopening garden centres.

She wrote:"I believe the case in terms of customer safety, promoting wellbeing, supporting lockdown measures and mitigating the economic impact on this particular sector, is compelling. I hope you will reconsider the guidance in relation to the closure of garden centres and nurseries."
