Teddington Memorial Hospital's new Pain Clinic project is making "significant progress", said project lead Angela Clarke at The League of Friends' recent AGM.
The clinic, currently named Teddington Health & Social Care Outpatient Facility Development, will provide vital services to help patients manage chronic pain and improve their quality of life.
Key Drivers Behind the Project
The initiative supports the NHS's strategy to relocate community services outside acute hospitals, increasing accessibility and cost efficiency.
The clinic will repurpose existing office space, with funding provided by Public Dividend Capital, central NHS resources, and charity contributions from The League of Friends.
Challenges and Features
The project's challenges include meeting upgraded air handling regulations and coordinating utilities.
Efforts are being made to minimise disruption for patients and staff, including The League of Friends providing noise-cancelling headphones for dementia patients during construction.
Elevating Patient Experience
The League of Friends' contribution of over £150,000 will ensure the clinic offers a premium patient experience.
The facility will feature high-spec flooring, custom furniture, dementia-friendly designs, and a dedicated paediatric waiting area.
The hospital gardens will also be redesigned for improved accessibility and aesthetics, including a sensory garden and raised beds.
Timeline and Completion
The clinic is set to open in April 2025, following a one-month testing phase after its February completion.
This project marks a major milestone for Teddington Memorial Hospital, and The League of Friends continues to seek support to enhance patient and staff facilities.
