'Tis the season and what better way to celebrate Christmas than with an advent calendar that supports one of Teddington's most-loved charities.

Disability charity Ruils has released its new 2021 calendar #ASeasonOfKindness, a heartwarming creation which highlights the impact that everyday acts of kindness can have.

Each one of the 25 windows reveals an act of kindness for people to try with their family, just as last year's Advent Challenge calendar contained a series of challenges for supporters to complete.

The calendar has been released to raise funds for Ruils' new SEND Befriending Service, FriendBee.

FreindBee pairs disabled young people with a Befriender to help them access social and leisure activities, which helps them to a sense of develop confidence and independence away from their family.

It costs £30,000 per year but Ruils receives no funding from the government for it, meaning they rely in part on fundraising efforts and the generosity of the community to run it.

Cathy Maker, chief executive of Ruils said: "The pandemic has significantly impacted the lives of young disabled people, especially their social lives and mental health.

"By participating in #ASeasonOfKindness this Christmas, you will be helping young people across SW London to regain independence and build their confidence."

The charity, which recently won a spot on the new Richmond monopoly board in recognition of its work, is asking for a £10 donation per calendar.

Calendars must be ordered before November 28 to arrive before Christmas. To order one for yourself or a friend, visit www.ruils.co.uk/adventcalendar2021

Ruils is a local user-led charity that supports children and adults with disabilities and the elderly to live independently, be part of their community and to live life to the full.

It provides information, advice, befriending and activities to clients and their families.
