There is some good news on the length of the COVID-19 isolation period - it is set to be reduced.

The 14 day period will now be cut down to 10.

This change applies in the whole of the UK, after previously being adopted in Wales.

This applies if you've had symptoms, come into contact with somebody who has COVID and travelling back from a high-risk country.

It's though that by day 10 that only 2% of people with the virus could transmit it so this is a low-risk move.

Anyone who has been self-isolating can cut short their 14 day period on Monday - providing they have already been in isolation for 10.

The NHS app's counter will not update until next Thursday however.

The move has been approved by the country's chief medical officers.

Compliance withe 14 days isolation was thought to be as low as 20% - so hopefully this shorter period will dramatically increase that.
