Amazing 10 year old rows Teddington section of the Thames to raise money for RNLI
As an organisation, the RNLI, rely on the goodwill and generosity of the public.
And here at Teddington RNLI the generosity of spirit was summed up by the amazing Evelyn Hunt who successfully raised money for Teddington RNLI.
Evelyn is a 10-year-old Cub Scout with 1st Cuddington (Warspite) Sea Scouts in Teddington.
As part of Evelyn's Chief Scouts Silver Award, she decided to raise funds for Teddington RNLI Lifeboat Station by rowing from Hampton Court to Teddington Lock, and raised £144.88!
As part of our water safety education programme, Evelyn had visited the Lifeboat Station in the past and whilst she is very much at home on the water, she recognises the risks and dangers, and the vital role of the RNLI in both water safety and rescue.
2020's unique circumstances meant that Evelyn didn't think she would get to complete her challenge, and her leaders encouraged her to think about other options.
However, in July, limited Scout water activities were allowed and by August she was able to practice single seat rowing. Evelyn saw her chance and worked on her skills with a variety of leaders and instructors.
September offered a good weather window - and we joined her for part of her journey! We wanted to thank Evelyn and the Sea Scouts again for her support and her fundraising efforts! See the amazing footage HERE
We know it's been a tough year for all so when people do amazing things to help others it lifts all our spirits. Evelyn is a fine example to all of us.
