Former members of the elite military regiments, The SAS and The SBS were the special guests for a SporTedd intelligence briefing at Teddington's riverside Anglers pub last Tuesday (28th June).
The two secret Special Forces soldiers, who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan as well as other unpublicised missions were joined by former Director of the Cheltenham spy base GCHQ, Robert Hannigan.
While being careful not to breach national security, the trio gave a fascinating insight into the conflict in Ukraine and how it may pan out as well as the current tense security issues facing the UK including terrorism and China.
It was the FIRST time the community group SporTedd, which raises funds for sport-themed projects in the area, had invited non-sport guests to an event.
Over £1000 was raised with a raffle featuring bottles of port and whisky donated by the Special Air Service and the Special Boat Service as well as a signed copy of the best-selling GCHQ Puzzle Book.
The former SAS soldier Vic Vicary also sold several of his books called Plan D - an astonishing account of his polar expeditions and triumph over adversity.
