12 Days of Christmas: The Landmark Arts Centre
Our 12 days of Christmas series focuses on good causes in our local area.
The Landmark Arts Centre is right at the heart of the Teddington community.
So here is everything you need to know about the centre.
History
The magnificent building was constructed in the 1880s as the church of St Alban The Martyr.
Originally designed for a congregation of 1200, by the 1970s it was declared redundant and was neglected for many years.
A passionate campaign led by local people eventually succeeded in saving it from demolition and in 1995 it became the home of a new community art centre – the Landmark Arts Centre.
Purpose
The Landmark is an independent charity (key documents and details below) dedicated to maintaining the Landmark as an energetic arts centre and community resource that:
Offers a wide range of arts education activities for children, young people and adults
Presents a stimulating, year-round, programme of live events including music, comedy, poetry and dance
Provides exhibition opportunities for visual artists and designer-makers through our art fairs and by hosting group and solo exhibitions, and cares for our amazing Grade II* listed building
Funding
The Landmark does not receive any statutory funding towards their core operating costs which is why the support of the local community is so essential and so valued.
