When you think about coffee culture, Seattle, Rome, or Paris might spring to mind. But making waves throughout the UK is Japanese coffee culture, as Ueshima Coffee Company (UCC) is now one of the fastest growing coffee brands in the UK. The nearest store is in Westfields, West London.

It began in 1933 when a young man established a western food store in Kobe, Japan. Tadao Ueshima's passion for all things Western soon led him to discover coffee and such was his passion for this rich, aromatic 'mysterious beverage' that he dedicated his life to making coffee popular across Japan; leading him to be known as the 'Father of Coffee' in his homeland.

Japan has been at the forefront of coffee innovations like pour-over, siphons and flannel dripped coffee – long before they were popular in the Western world. Baristas at traditional Japanese coffee shops – Kissatens – pride themselves on attention to detail, from carefully measuring coffee grounds to controlling water temperature for the perfect extraction process.

All of Ueshima's core coffee blends are all sourced sustainably from Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade or NKG Bloom initiatives. The company is committed to zero waste and have updated its packaging – to make doing the right thing, the easy thing.

All its coffee beans and ground packaging are now being phased into in a mono PP material (mono poly propylene). The flexible plastic not only keeps coffee fresher for longer, it's also 100% recyclable. just need to drop it off at a flexible plastic collection point – available at most large supermarkets across the UK.
