Teddington: former Team GB Olympians preview Tokyo 2020 Olympics in star-studded night at The Wharf

Former Team GB Olympians Roger Black, Christine Ohuruogu and Mark Hunter were in Teddington this week to preview the Tokyo 2020 Games, in a sparkling night of discussion and hospitality at the Wharf restaurant.

The event, put on by local sports fundraising organisation SporTedd saw the 3 Olympic stars give their views on what to look out for at Tokyo 2020 - as well as revealing the highs and lows of their own careers in elite sport.

An awed local audience including Sky Anchor Jeremy Thompson listened as former Mail on Sunday sports editor Alison Kervin put her questions to the trio, who responded with candid and revealing tales of life as a top sports star.

The night also featured a raffle of sports-related prizes including a tennis racket signed by Andy Murray and tickets to the Hundred at Lords.

And there was a moving speech from the remarkable Kat Cordiner, who will be rowing 3,000 miles this December to raise money for cancer charities.

Cordiner, 40, will be taking part in the intense physical challenge despite battling cervical cancer, including undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment after the illness returned last year.

She and her teammates, Abby and Charlotte, are racing as the team ExtraOARdinary and you can read more about their amazing story and how to get involved HERE .

The trio are holding a fundraising black tie ball at Grovesnor House in London on September 18 and are grateful for any prizes that could be donated towards this.

Speaking after the event, SporTedd Chair Stuart Higgins, said: "It was fantastic and even quite emotional to be all out together again given its 539 days since our last SporTedd event in January 2020.

"We were fortunate enough to have three inspirational athletes share their experiences and a captive audience.

"We would love to attract more members and help raise more money on top of the £30,000 we have donated to local sport-themed projects.

"Hopefully, we will have Gary Lineker as our next guest and we are also looking at small member-only events as well as a wine-tasting and a special Gala dinner for Xmas."
