Reports emerged last night of a dramatic moped chase around the streets of Teddington.

A helicopter was also heard by multiple sources on social media.

Now we have the full details of the event from the police themselves.

Here is their statement: "Police began a pursuit of a moped that failed to stop for police in Kingston-upon-Thames at around 00:07hrs on Monday, 12 October.

"The rider decamped at Teddington Lock at around 00:16hrs and was seen to enter the water.

"He then climbed into a boat before re-entering the water.

"The male was then detained by police.

"He was taken to hospital by LAS as a precaution before going into custody, having been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and possession of cannabis."
