One of Teddington's most popular pubs, The Clock House in the High Street is relaunching itself with its old historic name, The Kings Arms, Teddington Nub News can exclusively reveal.
According to local records a pub has existed on the site since 1853 and older residents of Teddington will remember the pub affectionately as it was crammed with brass fittings which were later sold off.
The pub was also a popular watering hole for many of the actors who worked on TV series at Thames Tv Studios in the late 80's and 90's.
As the grainy black and white photo shows there was a balcony over the main bar.
It is understood one of the reasons it changed its name was the constant confusion between The King's Head less than 100 metres along the road and The Kings Arms as friends arranging to meet for a drink turned up at the wrong venue!
The pub was renamed The Clock House in 2008 but closed down during the pandemic, only to briefly reopen when COVID restrictions were relaxed.
All the external brickwork has now been painted grey and passers-by have witnessed busy activity inside the bars in preparation for reopening on April 12th when eating and drinking is allowed but only outside. The pub has a garden at the back.
Today a small poster in the window of the pub states: Now Hiring Bar & Waiting Staff, Kings Arms, Teddington. Send a copy of your CV to the email address below. Contact Simon. [email protected]
