Signs cause outrage as we are urged to be kind to Bushy Park

Here in Teddington we are lucky to have a Royal Park on our doorstep.

Bushy Park is probably the most beautiful spot in London, but it can only remain that way if we look after it.

This is why the Royal Parks have launched a #BeKindToYourParks campaign.

It comes as many took to Twitter over the weekend to express their outrage that a sign reading "This a park not a toilet or a rubbish bin" was placed on the entrance to Bushy Park.

The outrage is not over the sign itself but the fact it is necessary in the first place.

Royal Parks said: "We'll focus on three key messages based on: being kind to others, being kind to the environment and visitors being kind to themselves.

"We are working hard in all of the Royal Parks, particularly on the issue of people leaving litter, which we know is dangerous for wildlife, unpleasant for visitors and tough for our staff to clean up – over a tonne every day in June for Hyde Park alone.

"We want to encourage everyone to safely enjoy and share the parks so we are launching a campaign from 16th July through to the end of August called The Summer Of Kindness, using the hashtag #BeKindToYourParks.

"We hope our simple messages of enjoying the parks, being kind to one another and respecting the environment will lead people to consider how their actions impact on their parks."

Now more than ever with so many activities taking place outdoors in our parks it is so important to protect them.
