TEDDINGTON is known for its inspiring people, community spirit and great independent businesses.

From the triumphant return of Park Lane Stables to the establishment of a regular independent makers market at the Anglers pub there's a lot to celebrate from the past year.

And now there's an opportunity to do so with Richmond Council's 2021 Community Heroes Awards.

The annual gongs recognise the people who make their community and the wider borough a better place to live.

You can nominate anyone who did their work in a voluntary capacity and video nominations are accepted.

Award categories include outstanding achievement by a young person, community group of the year and an award to recognise those making great strides toward tackling climate change.

Nominations close on Thursday 3 February 2022 and the ceremony will take place on 23 March.

Cllr Michael Wilson, Vice Chair of Richmond Council's Finance, Policy and Resource Committee and Spokesperson for Communities, Equalities & the Voluntary Sector said: "We are lucky to live in a borough with so many people who commit themselves to helping others and improving their local communities.

"These people deserve recognition and celebration for going the extra mile without expecting anything in return.

"It might be a young person who has led their peers through being a good example, someone who supports the elderly in their community, or a group who helps look after a local park. Whatever the good deed is, the selfless individuals or groups behind them need thanking and celebrating, so please get in touch and nominate them for a Community Hero Award!"

At last year's awards several people and community groups from Teddington were shortlisted in their categories - including Sheddington which won highly commended in the 'Community Project of the Year' award.

Other nominees included Mark Jopling from the Save Udney Park campaign, Teddington and Hampton Wick Voluntary Care Group and Park Lane Stables, plus many local volunteers recognised for their outstanding years of service.

The Council received over 200 nominations for the awards which were judged by a panel of councillors, local voluntary sector leaders and council officers.
