A Teddington-based entrepreneur has won the Young Start Up award for 2020.

Anthony Mellor, 22, runs White 2 Label manufacturing.

About the business

The company describes itself as a "young and exciting fashion manufacturing agency disrupting an outdated industry."

We spoke to Anthony about running his business and the and why he started it.

He said: "I started the business after running a sportswear brand myself for two years.

"It was difficult to find a reliable manufacturer as a start-up - it was a very shady industry.

"So I decided to start my own manufacturing business instead."

Winning the award

He also explained about the rigorous process of winning the award.

He said: "25 starts ups are picked and then this is brought down to 12 who have to do a speed-networking event with sponsors.

"Then the final five have to do a Dragon's Den style pitch to the five judges before selling the business to a live audience."

After getting to the final in 2019 Anthony did enough in 2020 to win the judges over and win the competition.

Getting through the pandemic and the future

After originally outsourcing their printing to a different company Anthony had to think on his feet when that company closed down.

All through lockdown using some basic printing equipment the company was able to still serve their customers.

Now they have secured a three year lease to start their own print shop and ultimately Anthony wants his own factory.
