Teddington has plenty of history - but which house in the town is the oldest - and just how old is it?

Well the honour of the oldest house in Teddington goes to Elmfield House on the High Street.

So let's take a look back at the history of the house - and who occupies it today.

The History

The house is believed to have been built way back in the 1720s.

So it comes in at 300 years old - a pretty astonishing age.

So what was the house first used for?

Well originally it was a private home before becoming offices for Richmond Council.

It used to have a front garden with boundary walls, iron railings and gates, and substantial gate piers until 1927 when they were all lost to road widening.

The House Today

Today Elmfield House is a dental surgery.

The oldest house in Teddington was sold off by the council in 2007.
