Liberal Democrat candidate Petra Fleming has been elected as the new councillor for Hampton Wick after winning more than half of the votes cast in this week's by-election for the ward.

2447 people voted for Fleming, almost double the number of her closest rival, Conservative candidate Nina Watson.

Watson came second with 26.42% of the vote, followed by the Green Party (11.54%) and Labour (9.56%).

Fleming's election means that all three of Hampton Wick's council seats are held by Liberal Democrats.

She will join Councillors Robin Brown and Jim Millard, who were elected in 2018.

Fleming told Nub News: "I am thrilled and excited to have been elected as a Hampton Wick councillor and extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity to represent the local ward residents.

"I will work hard to listen and act quickly to resolve local issues as best I can.

"Thank you to everyone who turned out to vote."
